ASoP on 3AW Melbourne

ASoP CEO Dr Pramudie Gunaratne joined 3AW Melbourne to discuss the growing gaps in Australia's mental healthcare system and what needs to change.

Recent tragedies have once again exposed serious shortcomings in mental healthcare. But behind the headlines are thousands of Australians living with severe mental illness who struggle to access the treatment they need.

We know what effective mental healthcare looks like. Yet too often, the care people receive depends on their postcode rather than their clinical needs.

In the interview, Dr Gunaratne discusses why these gaps persist and ASoP's proposal for a National Mental Health Observatory — a practical initiative to identify where people are missing out on evidence-based care, learn from services doing things well, and drive improvements across the system.
